History
The history of the “Cerro de las tres cruces” and why it has three crosses begin in Cartagena y another mountain which was the home of a demon who called himself Buziraco. In the top of the hill the demon was worshiped by the Indians in this zone. He have been taking care of jewels and gold, he have been dancing and smoking in his top of mountain.
When fray Alonso de la Cruz Paredes, arrived in Cartagena on a mission for the church, the people of the sector noticed him that in the top of a mountain was a devil, he decided make something to knockout the devil. He convoked a group of persons and drove up the hill where the devil lived with many crosses and knocked the devil with prayers.
Buziraco was expulsed of your home and not happy with this, Burizaco search in Cali a new place to live, and extend his power up the hill for a many years ago since Cali was established.The power was very strong and in Cali the scenes was very sad in the year of 1837 when Cali was plunged a wave of terror caused by deaths, smallpox, dengue, leprosy, prostitutions, fires, pest and crop, in this moments two Frays, Juan (rector of College of Santa Librada) and Vicente, from Quito, decided take the problem and make a solution because the demon could be seen in the skies as the figure of a gigantic bat or the shadow of the devil.
So, the May 3 of 1837, the two Frays went in procession carrying three bamboo crosses adorned with flowers and branches, whit the idea that Burizaco was exorcise in the order to God.When the brothers was established in the top of the hill, planted the three crosses and a deep voice came from the mountain cursing the city.Next, every 3 of May the two Frays comes to the top of the hill and renew the crosses that hold the devil until the year 1850 because in 1851 the two Frays went to Peru.
The tradition continued much the same, until the June 7, 1925, an earthquake of 6,8 measuring the city, this earthquake was attributed to Buziraco who knocked the crosses of bamboo and damaged many churches in the city. Next Marco Tulio Collazos, make a inciative to bild the three crosses in iron and cement, that began on may 26 of 1937 and ended 31 of December of that year and people said that buziraco finally was dead.
